- M. D. Rucker, Jun. reports that the Lord Mayor has asked the Metropolitan clubs to divert the proceeds of their benefit meeting from the "Princess Alice" fund to the Abercarne colliery sufferers, and announces that the Surrey C.C.C. has granted the Kennington Oval for October 19th; entries for the one- and three-mile handicaps and five-mile scratch race may be made through committeemen of the West Kent, Wanderers, Stanley, Surrey, Temple, Kingston, Civil Service, London, Pickwick and London A.C. clubs.
- Heat-by-heat results and a close account of the four-mile handicap at Lillie Bridge for one of Keen's patent "Eclipse" bicycles, in which W. Wyndham of the L.B.C. (90 yards) spurted past F. T. East on the railway stretch to win by four yards, East's scratch time of 12 mins. 17 1/2 secs. being the fastest on record.
- H. V. Cleaver takes the Otter S.C. 500 yards gold badge with three seconds to spare while A. P. Stokes finishes ten seconds outside the time; Cleaver, Scott and Sewell also swim at the Cadogan entertainment, and tickets for the Otter S.C. entertainment of the 11th are available from Cleaver and Newman at 2s.
- Francis Godlee reports four N.E. men riding Chingford, Buckhurst Hill and Loughton; the N.W. musters sixteen for Little Berkhampstead under Tegetmeier, with Marchant dismounting over the handles when his brake wheel fixed, and tea at 1s. 6d. at the "Salisbury Crest," Essendon; W. A. Smith's three Western men join them for a 50-mile day.
- "60-Inch" and "53-Inch" ride Farnham to Petersfield over Woolmer Forest and up Stonor Hill, praising the "White Horse" at Droxford (tea, bed and breakfast 3s.) and condemning the 4s. 6d. plain dinner at Basingstoke's "Red Lion"; they detour to the mile-long yew-tree drive and warn that Farleigh Hill is a double of Bury Hill near Arundel. 148 1/2 miles in two days.
- A twenty-light double acrostic in rhymed couplets, its clues drawn from Havana cigars, Neapolitan lazzaroni, a bicycle lamp ("Don't ride without me, or you may meet active Robert") and a "header," the whole naming a land famed for patience.
- H. C. Freeth finishes his 225-mile run: breakfast at Bath's "White Lion," an hour and a half wasted on top of Box Hill waiting for Mr. Bacon (who had unknowingly taken the Shaw Church road), the "Club" machine's break-pin falling out near Corsham, and a 10 1/4 m.p.h. last stretch into St. John's Wood at 11 p.m.; Bacon entrained at Kew Bridge at 214 miles. Closes with a tribute to Mr. Hutchings, missed at Melksham.
- The writer and Wilson ship their machines on the "Guernsey" from Southampton for 3s. 6d., clear the St. Malo Custom House, and ride through Brittany in near-continuous rain, the "Hotel de Bretagne" at Dinan, a twelve-mile circle taken due north by mistake beyond St. Jouan, and stages to Mauron, Redon and Nantes. - A six-light acrostic by "Sibyl," its clues running from a Somerset city to Chinese tea and a Grecian phalanx, whose whole is "two names welcome to the L.B.C."
- Fixtures from the Beckenham and Surrey B.C. meetings of 28th September through the Brighton Athletic Club and Clapham B.C. handicaps to the 19th October Kennington Oval meeting for the Abercarne colliery sufferers and the C.U.Bi.C. v. L.B.C. inter-club races at Cambridge, with M. D. Rucker, Jun. handicapping nearly all of them.
- The 28th September meets, Croydon and Blackheath Divisions for Godstone, the N.E. from Lea Bridge Road for Abridge, the Western joining the N.W. for Essendon, plus W. A. Smith's full-moon trip to Petersfield and Stonor Hill over Hind Head on 12th October.
- A single advertisement offering a 62-inch half-bright "Norwood" with roller and cone bearings, front lever brake and rat-trap pedals for £12.
