- Cuttings from a report of the Exeter sports, where M. D. Rucker of the L.B.C. won the one-mile Mounting and Dismounting Race on a machine of his own patent, beating W. A. Bayley of the Exeter B.C. on a "Carver," and was beaten by a yard by A. H. Whalley in the 120 yards hurdle race. Rucker also gave an exhibition of trick riding, standing on the saddle and riding at full length on his back.
- Notice of the Otters' annual entertainment at the St. Marylebone Baths on Tuesday 3rd October, with the full programme of scratch and invitation handicaps, distance plunging, a hurdle handicap, a tub race and ornamental swimming. Entries close 26th September with Geo. H. Rope; tickets from C. Newman of the L.B.C.
- Tabulated district meets for the coming Saturdays, taking the districts to Ewell, Walton-on-Thames, Crawley, Waltham Abbey, Barnet, Kingston and Godstone.
- District reports for 9th September: the N.E. mustered one member and his friend, who rode by Abridge, Passingford Bridge and Navestock Side to the "White Hart" at Brentwood and saw the Chingford fête fireworks on the way home. The N.W. found the North road alive with tricyclists returning from the fifty miles road trial and ate "macadam" pie at the "Five Horse Shoes"; the S.W. rode the Surbiton lanes to Cobham with three dogs in company; and the S.E. suffered a celebrated bad tea at the "Three Horse Shoes," Knockholt, where six chops took an hour and the bald proprietor made four journeys before producing knives.
- H. G. A. Brown again reminds members of the annual S.E. Road Trial on the 23rd instant and asks for more entries, the time and place of starting to be published in the Gazette.
- Fully 6,000 spectators at Kennington Oval saw F. L. Adam (London, 55 yards) win the One Mile Handicap final, J. S. Whatton of Cambridge take the Invitation Quarter-Mile from J. R. Hamilton of the Druids by half a yard after boring him wide, and the veteran E. Tyler win the Two Miles Members' Handicap. H. W. Gaskell of Ranelagh Harriers took the fifty-guinea Ten Miles Challenge Cup from Popplewell by two yards in 38 min. 26.25 sec.; full heat details are appended from the Sporting Life.
- The third annual road championship, run on the Great North Road from Canwick Corner through Hatfield, Stevenage and Hitchin to beyond Ickleford and back. M. J. Lowndes of Congleton on a "Coventry Rotary" beat record in 3 hrs. 47 min. 40 sec. from T. R. Marriott of Nottingham on a "Humber," both averaging over thirteen miles an hour; seven medals went to those inside five hours, and a protest against Marriott for taking the wrong course was thought groundless.
- The Captain's sanctioned list under Rule 40, the Brighton B.C. Annual Meeting on 16th September and the L.A.C. meetings at Stamford Bridge in October and November, followed by a Standard paragraph on Keen of London falling heavily in the first round of his return match with Waller of Newcastle at Aberdeen.
- "Rambler" asks why the Bath medallists fight shy of the S.E. Handicap, insisting no reputations are made or marred by the road examination, and corrects himself on the limit, now reported at twenty-five minutes. He also jokes that the S.W., having secured the ladies' record, is after the canine one with two retrievers and a collie at Cobham, and proposes a twenty-four hour dog match on the Bath road with depots of Spratt's biscuits.
- Gerard F. Coss describes the Thun to Interlachen road by Faulensee and Därligen, naming the Oberland peaks in the order they open out, and running the gauntlet of the idlers on Interlachen's Hohe-weg; he condemns a Continental machine's red velvet saddle, notes the Milan club's rule that members own English machines, and blames the £16-£18 cost for the scarcity of Swiss riders. Three further letters follow: F. E. G. on the L.B.C. ball, "Ancho" against a Bank Holiday General Meet, and "Red Tape" on the contradiction between Regulations 2 and 5 governing the road gold medals.
