- Standing note that the latest hour for reception of copy for the "Gazette" is 6.0 p.m. on Tuesdays.
- Leading article arguing that the Member's Sister, long overlooked beside the Member's Brother, has been won over to the wheel by the tricycle and the sociable, and that she has given the Club the Ladies' Challenge Cup and years of tales and articles for the Gazette.
- Ashley W. Barnett, for the District Captains, refers members to last Gazette for district starting times and hopes the full moon will tempt a good muster at the "King's Head" at the top of Harrow hill.
- E. S. Price, Hon. Sec., announces the Committee's race meeting for Saturday 22nd September at 3.30: a One Mile Club Handicap, a Twelve Miles District Scratch on bona fide roadsters, a Half-mile Club Scratch and a 220 yards flat race for boys under 16, with entries closing 17th September and members admitted free on production of the Club badge.
- Captain Ashley W. Barnett announces that, with the Race Committee's consent, a twenty-minute game of La Crosse will be added to the programme, played mainly by members and members' brothers.
- Theo. Godlee, N.E. District Captain, asks qualified or nearly qualified N.E. men willing to ride the new twelve miles district event on 22nd September to let him know so that he can select a team.
- District notices for the meet: Godlee expects every N.E. member near town to attend so easy a ride, while R. G. Francis has the Croydon Division of the S.E. leaving the Fire Station at four o'clock punctually to join the South West at the "Coach and Horses," Kew, at five.
- The editor answers the correspondent "Goethe," who indignantly claims copyright in the title "The Member's Brother" on the strength of his signed article in the issue of July 30th, 1880.
- Tabulated district meets from August 18th to September 8th for the N.E., N.W., W., S.W. and the Croydon and Blackheath Divisions of the S.E., with destinations including Havering, Berkhampstead, Dartford, Guildford, Riverhead, Stock, Sunbury, Upminster, East Grinstead and Woking ("Maybury Inn"), plus a S.E. paperchase.
- District run reports: the N.W. to Colney Heath (not Colney Hatch) with a poor tea and gipsy cocoanuts; H. L. Ryan riding the S.W. alone from Kingston by Surbiton Hill, Ewell, Chessington and Hook; the S.E. gathering at the "Swan," Walton, and being entertained by the Oswalds at Duppas Hill; and the West's run with Captain Barnett through Bushey Park and Moulsey to the much-derided Oatlands Park "Grotto."
- First instalment of a Highland touring paper, recommending Anderson's and Baddeley's Highlands guides and a mackintosh cape, and describing the Hull-to-Dundee steamer, the climb over the Devil's Elbow to Braemar, Deeside past Balmoral, and the Falls of Foyers on Loch Ness. To be continued.
- "Wivern" complains that the Member's Brother enjoys the Gazette, Club balls and run lists without paying his guinea or facing election, and proposes limiting him to six runs a year and to the rear ranks; "Mercurius" asks the Race Committee to add a 100 yards race to the 22nd September programme.
- August 11th run with a tail wind out and a bright moon home, taken by Redbridge and a lower road over Hog Hill to the "Tower Arms" at Havering, where a sumptuous tea for ten awaited a party of six. Present: E. H. Barrett, R. B. Hough, Jolly, Lyne, A. P. Barrett (visitor) and Theo. Godlee, District Captain.
- Paragraphs of club gossip: H. R. Reynolds's ride from Croydon to Edinburgh, 450 miles in 107 1/4 hours, partly with W. D'A. Crofton; a Daily Telegraph article on Hampstead Heath that ignored the N.W. muster; further mockery of the Oatlands "Grotto" and the Duchess of York's bath; the President's name in the August C.T.C. candidates; and S. Herbert and R. G. Francis's wet run from East Grinstead through Chichester and Dorchester to Exeter.
- List sanctioned by the Captain under Rule 40: the Ipswich B.C. meeting (Aug. 25), Winchester and County Cycle Club (Aug. 27), Lincoln B.C. (Sept. 1), Nottingham B.C. Sports (Sept. 8) and the Surrey B.C. Autumn Meeting at Kennington Oval (Sept. 15).
- W. J. Williams of 23, Highbury Place, N., seeks a fourth man to make up a party of three members touring France and Switzerland for three weeks in September.
- Correction that, through a mistake in the making-up of the last issue, line 3 of "An Epitaph" should have been printed between lines 12 and 13 of "Unofficial Meet in the N.W."
