Adee's annual bicycle tour of France was cut short when the State Department ordered him to a Christiania conference on Baltic island sovereignty just as war began; he made his way home via Leith, London and Liverpool, arriving in New York on Sept. 3.
- The library given to his native Ashfield, Mass., by Milo M. Belding, Senior, was dedicated Aug. 29, with speakers including G. Stanley Hall and a $1,000 gift check read out on behalf of the donor's son, fellow wheelman Milo M. Belding, Jr.
- L.A.W. member No. 1531 James E. Sullivan, longtime secretary-treasurer of the Amateur Athletic Union and a leading advocate for "pure athletics," died in New York on Sept. 16, 1914, after years as an ally of the League's fight for amateur sport.
