• Deliberazioni del Consiglio (opens in a new tab)

  Minutes of the Council's 8 and 12 August 1895 sittings, attended by Riva, Gorla, Venegoni, Bertarelli, Guicciardi, Segré, Magnasco, Carugati and Luzzatto: the Council approves a pay rise for staff, appoints Ing. Riva and L.V. Bertarelli as commissioners to reorganise the administration, and hears Bertarelli propose reprinting the road Guida with corrections and new road profiles. At the second sitting Bertarelli reports the clandestine resale of some Guide copies, and after lengthy debate the Council accepts the resignation of Director-General Nob. Cav. Giulio Venino, tendered after the sudden death of his son, delegating Dott. Segré to inform him; the minutes are signed by council secretary Avv. Mario Albrighi.

  Road-section chief Luigi Vittorio Bertarelli reports that around three thousand correction/addition forms for the Guida have already been sent out to the Consular Corps and cycling societies, and details a Provincia di Pavia ruling, secured through member Archimede Griziotti, that equalises cyclists' Po bridge and ferry tolls with pedestrians' at Castel S. Giovanni, Portalbera, Stella, Mezzanacorti and Casei Gerola and at several boat crossings, each now charging 0.05 lire per person and per machine (tandems counted as two machines). He also announces that a reorganised despatch system for mailing the Rivista, circulars and Guides to members will start working in September, after complaints caused by staff turnover and the section's relocation.

  A multi-page schedule of discounts (Ribassi ai Soci) that T.C.C.I. members receive on machines, accessories and repairs from dealers across dozens of Italian towns, from Achille Paolelli in Civitavecchia and Soldano Giovanni in Cuneo to Ercole Chiaja in Naples and Coen e Soci in Palermo, covering brands including Adler, Humber, Raleigh, Prinetti e Stucchi and Rudge-Whitworth at discounts typically of 10-25%. An errata corrige at the end, signed by Sezione Tecnica chief Enrico Luzzatto, corrects the Guida's listing of a mechanic's name at p.7 from 'Alfredo Fedici' to the correct 'Alfredo Gnidi'.

  A list of hotels across Italy offering T.C.C.I. members discounted board, from the Hotel Ala at Ala (Trentino) and the Angelo d'Oro at Gorizia to the Svizzero "Terminus" at Turin and the Torcolo at Verona, each entry giving fixed lunch, breakfast, room and full-pension prices, full pension typically 4.50-9 lire including wine, soup, a meat course and dessert. A few Como-area cafés (Dormini and Magnaghi at Binasco, Sbodio at Como) instead offer straight 10-15% discounts on ordinary menu prices.
• Milano-Varese-Laveno (opens in a new tab)

  A road-guide supplement rating the Milan-Varese-Laveno route as poor and sandy near the Groane after Cagnola but excellent from Bizzozero into Varese, before turning sandy and pebbly again on the final stretch into Laveno; it lists the T.C.C.I. consular officers along the way (Federico Johnson and colleagues in Milan, Giacomo Biffi at Saronno, Carlo Giorgetti at Varese, Cesare Boccardi at Intra) and the contracted hotels at Saronno, Varese and Laveno. A companion narrative essay describes the Santuario di Saronno's frescoes by Gaudenzio Ferrari, Lanino and Bernardino Luini, and the fourteen chapels and panoramic views of the Sacro Monte above Varese.
• Milano-Como-Capolago (opens in a new tab)

  A road-guide supplement rating the Porta Volta-Affori stretch as very poor but the run into Como as generally good, warning that clearing the Chiasso customs post costs 25 centesimi on the Italian side and up to 9-14 lire deposit on the Swiss side; it lists the contracted hotels at Como (Albergo Como, Leoncino d'oro, Hotel Suisse) and consular officers including Pietro Baragiola at Como and G. Mornigiotti at Lugano. A companion narrative essay recounts the history of Como cathedral (begun 1396), the Baradello tower where Napoleone dei Torriani was imprisoned after the battle of Desio, the smugglers' terrain around Mendrisio, sculptor Vincenzo Vela's home-museum at Ligornetto, and the Monte Generoso rack railway with gradients up to 22%.
• Gita Milano-Venezia (opens in a new tab)

  The organising committee, meeting on 28 August, decides to keep the group Milan-Venice cycling tour on its original 14-16 September dates rather than postpone it to October, with departure at 9am and a stop at Lodi for breakfast; registration stays open until 1 September with a 40-lire fee payable in two instalments, and a possible side trip to Trieste is being planned for those staying on in Venice. By 28 August 30 members had signed up, including Federico Johnson, Achille Negri and L.V. Bertarelli.
• Gita Ciclistica Pavia-Montebello (opens in a new tab)

  An 8 September outing organised by the director of the "Fausolin" as T.C.C.I. consul, with groups converging from Pavia (leaving Piazza Castello at 6:30am), Broni, Tortona and Voghera to reach Casteggio via the Via Emilia by 9am, followed by a fixed 10am lunch (pasta in broth, a meat course, fruit and cheese, half a litre of wine) at the Albergo Vittoria, a walk to the Pistornile and drinks on the Marangoni house terrace. Registration cost 2 lire all-inclusive, through console Achille Vecchio in Pavia.
• Passeggiate Estive (opens in a new tab)

  The Lario summer section of the "Minerva" student-cyclists' society, based in Lierna, announces two September outings: a 56km ride on 5 September via Lierna-Olginate-Lecco, and a 100km ride on 12 September via Lecco-Lierna-Varenna-Gravedona and back.
