  Minutes of three Council sittings (23 March, 6 and 20 April 1898): finalising the Turin Congress arrangements and a reciprocity convention with the Austro-German touring cartel, approving a reprint of 4,000 Grandi Comunicazioni guides, launching the first social day-rides around Milan (starting 8 May with Milano-Erba-Lecco-Milano), disputing the exhibition space the Turin committee reassigned away from the club, and unanimously applauding Bertarelli's newly finished three-volume Guida del Piemonte and his work in Perugia on the forthcoming Guida dell'Umbria; a fourth category, starting from Vercelli, is added to the Milano-Torino ride.

  Full account of the Turin gathering: caravans from Rome (led by Vito Pardo under Capo Console Brunialti), Bologna (Sandoni), Genoa and a 275-strong Milan contingent in four categories under Bertarelli, Tarra, Johnson and ing. Gavazzi; a banquet for Director General Johnson, gold medals presented to committee president nob. Capponi-Trenca and vice-president Conte di Viarigi, the Roman cyclists' banquet at the Albergo Chiari with poet Olindo Guerrini and on. Brunialti, the "Il Pedale" club's reception, the Superga excursion (200-plus riders), the grand parade of 500 riders despite threatening rain, and the closing banquet at the Cantina del Martinetto with Mayor Barone Casana's speech and Bertarelli's on touring as a patriotic institution.

  Three donations to the club library: Professor Edmondo Brusoni's illustrated Locarno guide with nine touring itineraries and gradient tables; Dr. Tomaso Casali's Consigli d'igiene ai Ciclisti; and 17,000 copies of the Società Editrice Libraria Milanese's cycling law and regulation booklet, to be sent to every member.   Detailed guide, signed by Capo Sezione Medica Dott. Favari, to the club's 130-gram first-aid pack made by Dr. L. Zambeletti of Milan, a Mayor triangular bandage, sublimate-treated cotton, a haemostatic compress, hydrophile gauze and lead-water tablets, with instructions for disinfecting wounds, treating bruises, controlling a limb haemorrhage, splinting a fracture and reviving a fainting cyclist.

  Further consular appointments by Council resolution of 18 May 1898, promoting ing. Luciano Casalini to Capo Console at Vicenza and naming new consuls from Agazzano to Odessa, plus resignations and three errata-corrige name corrections.

  Report on the Naples section's goodwill outing to Benevento: some 30 riders, led by consuls Arano Weils and Sarlo, gathered eight more cyclists from San Giovanni a Teduccio at Cancello and were met en route by the Benevento consul, Cap. Venditti, and ten riders from Campobasso, before an 80-cover banquet at the Teatro Municipale and an evening ball hosted by the Circolo degli Impiegati.

  Bertarelli publishes the near-complete route index for the forthcoming Guida dell'Umbria, six zones of numbered roads and side-lanes covering Perugia, Orvieto, Todi, Terni, the Sabina, Spoleto, Norcia, Gubbio and Città di Castello, asking members who know of an omitted road to write in before the guide goes to print.
