Further illustrated history of early velocipede designs, drawing on Scientific American engravings, describing Lewis Gompertz's 1821 arm-powered improvement to the Drais machine, a one-wheeled English invention, a steam-powered velocipede design, and Lallement's 1866 patent showing treadle cranks on two wheels, as well as the Hanlon Brothers' improved bifurcated frame with adjustable saddle and cranks.
