- Describes the 'Cradle Spring' saddle suspension newly introduced by Cunningham & Co., a coiled steel rod that lets the saddle give forward, backward and sideways to absorb road jar, finished in various styles at six to seven dollars.
- Club news covering the Lawrence (Mass.) Bi. C. organised 5 Oct. 1880 under President P. M. Lyall, a preliminary meeting to form a bicycle club at Toledo, Ohio, and the New York Bicycle Club's first-anniversary dinner at the Hotel Hungaria, with Captain C. K. Munroe presiding and Captain Moody of the Yonkers club attending.
- The editors set out the paper's aims and survey a promising 1881, citing improvements in the Pope Manufacturing Co.'s Special Columbias, Cunningham & Co.'s new 'Yale' racer and Schuyler & Duane's English imports, then reflect on The Wheel's first three months and appeal for more subscribers.
- Notice that The Wheel's office has moved from 38 Courtlandt Street to more commodious quarters at 75 Fulton Street, New York, dated January 1, 1881.
- A wry signed Boston correspondence column complaining of a snub in the previous number and recounting holiday wheeling weather and a snow-spoiled meet, with verses including 'A Bicycler's Meat,' banter about 'Kol Kron,' Madeline and Jennie, and an anecdote of boring Colonel Pope about the 'American Star' patent.
- Notice that The Wheel is published on alternate Saturdays at $1.25 a year (European subscription 7s.), with remittances directed to Fred. Jenkins, 75 Fulton Street, New York, and advertising rates furnished on application.
